One of the phenomena of the 20th and 21st centuries has been that of globalisation. This course equips students with the knowledge and expertise to manage within this global framework. As globalisation increases, more organisations have to work beyond their regional boundaries, compete in diverse global environments and find that their traditional domestic markets are open to global challenges. These organisations need experts who can work across multicultural barriers, develop effective international strategies and source products internationally. This course will train students in these business key areas.
The course will provide an interdisciplinary approach to global citizenship and will help students develop their own understanding of complex notions in the international business environment. Additionally, the course will help students develop Digital Literacy skills through the use of applications software employed by contemporary organisations. The development of student knowledge and understanding of a range of international business and management practices and the ability to apply them effectively in an entrepreneurial and innovative manner will also be emphasised, as it is recognised that entrepreneurship is a key force for successful economic growth.
Student will learn and apply knowledge and expertise of managing in organisations and in different national cultures to evaluate the nature of multinationals’ activities in a global business environment. The course will discuss and appreciate the issues surrounding developing effective international strategies and sourcing products internationally. Students will critically evaluate international business theories related to managing international operations, international strategy and risk analysis, and the principles of international business. Students will be encouraged to utilise a range of contemporary strategies in developing solutions for a global context. This programme prepares students for careers in accountancy and finance, personnel and human resource management, marketing and market research, business strategy, small business management and start-up, economics, e-business and information management.
The course provides an interdisciplinary approach to Global Citizenship and will help students form their own understandings of complex and contested notions in the business environment. Students will develop informed perspectives on their own and collective responsibilities as global citizens within their local, national and international communities.
The course will provide students with the opportunity to develop Digital Literacy skills through the use of applications software used by contemporary organisations. Additionally, students will gain an understanding of managerial systems and their impact upon organisations. Digital literacy skills are also developed through the engagement with the ‘E’ aspects of the learning process through the process of engagement with ‘E’ materials, tasks, Personal Development Planning and collaborative learning.

6IB008 Research Methods (International Business)
The major issues to emerge around ethical and socially responsible working are concerned with providing a framework and perspective for management practice. Business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR) have gained increased prominence in organisations and their strategic thinking, fuelled not least by public concerns in the wake of corporate scandals. The module will enable students to view CSR from a range of perspectives – economic, strategic and normative – and to assess CSR in relation to key stakeholders groups including consumers, employees and the environment.
6IB003 Dynamics of Multinational Companies
The module aims to provide students with a better understanding of the rationale behind the decisions of multinational companies in a global business environment. With the recent global financial crisis impacting upon companies worldwide the module will also consider how the changing regulatory framework and governance may influence the strategic behaviour of firms. This module will allow students to better understand how multinational companies operate and their relevancy in the global marketplace.
6MK001 International Marketing
The aim of this module is to explore the complexity, stages and nature of international marketing to develop the students understanding of international marketing concepts resulting in an appreciation of the overall complexities of international marketing. Students will develop a good understanding of the processes and stages involved in establishing a market presence overseas in one or more international markets producing an overall strategy and plan for an organisation to achieve international market establishments.
6BE003 Strategic Management
The rapidly changing global environment requires organisations that are strategically agile, able to adapt and change to create sustainable competitive advantage. Success in this environment requires individuals who are enterprising, innovative, flexible, capable of critical thought and able to apply analytical skills to craft strategic solutions given great complexity. Students will learn to undertake and apply a range of analytical processes to support the crafting of appropriate strategic responses within an organisation. Different strategic themes are explored throughout the module with particular emphasis on contemporary issues.
6IB006 Debating Globalisation
This module develops the students understanding of the complex debate about the scale, nature, causes, consequences, and inevitability of globalisation. While everyday popular and business rhetoric treats globalisation as a fact of life serious discussion is marked by huge and complex controversies over what is happening. How these are understood will condition our analysis of international business in the decade to come.
6BU013 Independent Project
This final graduating project requires the completion of an original research paper. This will result from individual, independent research and will demonstrate knowledge and skills developed from formal study of any area of business studies. The principle aim is to allow student to conduct an independent research and analysis of a business related topic. It will build upon taught modules. The focus for this module is a research project, which can be linked to a specific organization or organizations for which the student has access (many students work whilst they study and this experience can be invaluable). Areas of investigation may take the form of a competitor analysis, an investigation of procedures, a customer satisfaction survey, the computerisation of a system, a training needs analysis, the development of a policy statement, employment relations etc.
Intakes for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in International Business Management (Top Up) programme are usually available 3 times a year. All applications should be submitted to ERCI no later than 1 month before the commencement date.
Courses are assessed by a combination of coursework, practical assignments and examinations. Formative assessments will also be included, as well as self- and peer-assessment and a research project.

Students must successfully complete, or be credited with, at least 360 credits within the stipulated period of study as set by the University, either via module exemptions or completion of requisite modules.
