This programme aims to qualify individuals who have met all the requirements to become an educational therapist. While traditional teaching focuses primarily on academics, educational therapists are trained to understand both academic content and how individuals process information.
Students will learn how to understand the specific learning challenges faced by individuals with diverse learning needs. Students will also learn how to apply the principles of effective screening, assessment, and intervention strategies to identify and address the individual’s educational needs.
ERCI runs its classes on a lecture-tutorial system. The average teacher-student ratio for lectures and tutorials are as follows:
Students undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Therapy programme will be expected to complete 6 modules of academic study. This programme is available on both full and part time basis and will take 8 months and 13 months respectively to complete. Full-time students will attend classes 5 days a week on weekdays for 3 hours each day, while part-time students will attend classes 3 days a week on weekdays and/or on weekends for 3 hours each day.

Synopsis: This module provides foundational knowledge and skills for individuals interested in educational therapy. Participants will explore the principles and practices of educational therapy, including understanding learning differences, assessment techniques, intervention strategies, and collaboration with other professionals.
Key learning objective: To grasp the role of educational therapy in supporting students with diverse learning needs, developing assessment and intervention plans, and fostering effective communication with students, families, and educators.
Synopsis: This module explores the journey of a child from birth to late adolescence through the lifespan development and the varied cognitive, physical, social and emotional challenges encountered.
Key learning objective: To understand developmental milestones, cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development, and the impact of various factors such as genetics, environment, and culture on individual growth and maturation.
Synopsis: The module explores the different classification systems used to categorize disabilities and disorders, such as the DSM-5, ICD-10, EDM and PDM-2.
Key learning objective: To know and understand the criteria for diagnosis, familiarizing with different classification systems of disabilities and disorders, and critically analysing their strengths and limitations in clinical practice.
Synopsis: This module provides an overview of the three foundational praxes in educational therapy, exploring their principles, applications, and benefits in supporting diverse learners.
Key learning objective: Understand and differentiate the three praxes in educational therapy to effectively apply them in individualized educational interventions.
Synopsis: This module provides a comprehensive overview of the processes involved in screening, assessment, and intervention to support student learning and development.
Key learning objective: Understand and apply the principles of effective screening, assessment, and intervention strategies to identify and address students’ educational needs.
Synopsis: This module provides a comprehensive overview of doing research, including identifying research questions, research design and methodology, data collection, data analysis, presentation of findings, ethical considerations in research, practical application of research, project development, and project presentation and evaluation.
Key learning objective: design, implement, and present a research project relevant to special and inclusive education, demonstrating competence in research methodologies, ethical considerations, data analysis, and interpretation.
Intakes for the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Therapy programme are available 4 times a year. All applications should be submitted to ERCI no later than 1 month before the commencement date.
The course is assessed by coursework. Unless otherwise stated, all modules within the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Therapy programme are assessed based on individual assignment(s).

Alan is a dedicated member of the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) organizing committee, focused on enhancing higher education quality in the region. He is appointed Associate Professor with Xijing Universuity, Xi’an China and served as Director Academic Quality and Research with ERC Insitite. A mentor to numerous young adults and executives, he fosters management and leadership skills using entrepreneurial, design, and critical thinking approaches. Alan’s expertise extends to teaching at the Bachelor and Masters levels, as well as conducting corporate training. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) in Journalism (Advertising) from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Business Administration (International Business) from Edith Cowan University (top 15% of his cohort), and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM University) in Spain.
Yen has a proven track record in various key business development & marketing roles involving evolution and change management. Her pilot roles in various media organisations of Cable TV (Singapore Cable Vision), Regional TV (MTV), Internet Advertising (China.com) and Digital Music (Soundbuzz & Motorola) at their nascent stages is a testimonial of her experience and expertise of driving businesses whilst embracing new technology. Her acumen and passion are evidenced in multiple “first to market” products and projects she has been involved in cutting across from media to digital products. Always pushing the concept of creative solutionism while building strong relationships with customers has translated to dynamic growth for the various companies. Being an ardent believer in change management to stay on top of ever changing economies, her current role as Chief Executive Officer of ERC Institute sees interesting forays leveraged on her experience.
